Abandoned Southern Railway Equipment, Asheville, NC

by Ken Humphreys

Just north of Asheville, North Carolina on NC Route 251 there is a long railroad siding which actively serves industries at both end of the siding. However the center section of the siding is inactive and is totally overgrown with brush and small trees. This section has a number of pieces of old Southern Railway rolling stock, apparently abandoned and totally forgotten. Hopefully someone will remove and restore this equipment and put it on display in a museum. These photos show what is sitting on this abandoned track. Thanks to Paul Folmsbee who informed me about this historic rail equipment.
